6804 Deep Groove Ball Bearing 20x32x7mm

Twenty millimeters is a standard shaft size for small motors under 1 kW. The 6804 bearing fits this shaft with a 32mm OD and 7mm width; a 6mm ring cross-section that leaves only 6mm of housing wall between the bearing OD and the shaft bore. Three seal configurations from a GCr15 platform: 3.49 kN dynamic, 1.96 kN static, 16,000 RPM.

Key Specifications

  • Sealing: Open (16,000 RPM), ZZ (16,000 RPM, non-contact metal shields), 2RS (~12,800 RPM, NBR contact seals).
  • Load: 3.49 kN dynamic (Cr), 1.96 kN static (Cor). A 6004 bearing at 20mm bore carries 9.36 kN but needs a 42mm housing bore.
  • Speed: 16,000 RPM (Open/ZZ) with polyurea grease. The 6mm ring section and 20mm bore keep ball pitch velocity low for the speed class.
  • Temperature: -20C to 120C (standard grease). 150C with ester-based grease (OEM).
  • Material: GCr15 chrome steel. 440C stainless steel. Hybrid ceramic (Si3N4).

Sealing and Lubrication

The 6804 Open bearing delivers 16,000 RPM with zero seal friction. Accepts oil-mist lubrication for continuous high-speed operation. Specified for small spindle motors, dental handpiece drives, and miniature pumps where the housing provides the contamination barrier.

The 6804 ZZ bearing uses SPCC steel shields with a non-contact labyrinth gap. Full 16,000 RPM with factory-filled polyurea grease. Shields block coarse particles without adding friction. Default for enclosed fan motors, 3D printer axes, and small power tool gear trains in clean housings.

The 6804 2RS bearing uses NBR rubber contact seals. Positive exclusion of fine dust and moisture. Speed reduces to ~12,800 RPM. Specified for outdoor power equipment, medical pumps, and food-processing machinery exposed to washdown.

Performance

At 3.49 kN dynamic load, the 6804 bearing carries a 20mm shaft in a 32mm envelope. The 6004 bearing fits the same shaft but needs a 42mm housing bore; 10mm more OD, carrying 9.36 kN dynamic. The 6904 bearing measures 20x37x9mm with 6.38 kN dynamic. If the housing bore is fixed at 32mm, the 6804 bearing is the only standard deep groove option for a 20mm shaft. The 7mm width keeps the axial envelope identical to the 6806 bearing; only the bore and OD scale down by 10mm.

ABEC-3 radial runout of 0.010mm is standard. At 16,000 RPM on a 20mm shaft, the bearing pitch circle velocity stays below 17 m/s. This is why the 6804 bearing achieves a higher speed rating than the 6806 bearing despite sharing the same 6mm ring section; the smaller bore reduces ball orbital speed at any given RPM.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the 6804 bearing compare to a 6004 bearing? +
Both fit a 20mm shaft. The 6804 bearing measures 20x32x7mm with 3.49 kN dynamic load. The 6004 bearing measures 20x42x12mm with 9.36 kN dynamic. The 6004 bearing needs a 10mm larger housing bore and 5mm more axial space. If the housing bore is fixed at 32mm, the 6804 bearing is the only standard deep groove option. If the housing can accept 42mm, the 6004 bearing provides nearly triple the load capacity. Contact us with your envelope constraints.
What is the difference between a 6804 bearing and a 6904 bearing? +
The 6904 bearing measures 20x37x9mm and carries 6.38 kN dynamic; 83% more than the 6804 bearing. The 6904 ring cross-section is 8.5mm versus 6mm for the 6804 bearing. The 6904 bearing needs a 5mm larger housing bore and 2mm more axial space. Choose the 6804 bearing when the 32mm OD is a hard constraint. Choose the 6904 bearing when the load exceeds 3.49 kN but the housing can accept 37mm.
Why does the 6804 bearing achieve 16,000 RPM while the 6806 bearing is limited to 11,000 RPM despite sharing the same 6mm ring section? +
The speed rating difference comes from bore diameter. At 16,000 RPM on a 20mm bore, the 6804 bearing ball pitch circle velocity is approximately 17 m/s. At 11,000 RPM on a 30mm bore, the 6806 bearing reaches roughly 17 m/s at the same ball orbital speed. Both bearings share the same limiting factor: centrifugal loading on the balls at approximately 17 m/s surface speed. The 6804 bearing achieves a higher RPM rating because its smaller pitch circle diameter means each revolution covers less distance at the ball path.
What are the typical applications for a 20mm shaft with only 32mm OD housing space? +
Small spindle motors under 1 kW where the stator lamination OD limits the bearing seat diameter. Dental handpiece and surgical tool drives where the tool body diameter is the hard constraint. 3D printer extruder assemblies where the hot-end mounting block leaves minimal radial clearance. Camera gimbal motors where the bearing OD must fit within the gimbal arm cross-section. All share the same design constraint: a 20mm shaft with 5-6mm of housing wall around the bearing, leaving exactly 32mm for the bearing OD.
