Shielding and Lubrication

The 6201 bearing ships in three sealing configurations. Open bearings suit gearboxes and oil-mist-lubricated spindles where the system handles contamination; speed reaches 20,000 RPM. ZZ metal shields form a non-contact labyrinth at the outer ring, retaining grease without friction loss. 2RS nitrile rubber seals provide a positive lip contact barrier against moisture, cutting debris, and concrete dust, reducing the speed ceiling to 16,000 RPM. All sealed variants are pre-greased for life with polyurea-thickened mineral grease; no field relubrication is required.

At 10mm width, the 6201 bearing has 2mm more axial cross-section than the 6001 bearing. This extra width accommodates a deeper seal groove with more positive lip contact force without reducing ball diameter. For power tools in construction environments where the bearing faces gypsum dust, concrete slurry, and impact vibration, the 2RS seal is the standard specification. For fan motors and HVAC blowers in relatively clean indoor air, ZZ shields preserve the full 20,000 RPM speed rating while providing adequate dust protection.

 

Performance

The 6201 bearing carries 6.82 kN dynamic load and 3.05 kN static load at 20,000 RPM in open configuration. Within the 6200-series deep groove ball bearing family, it follows the 6200 bearing (10x30x9mm, 5.10 kN) with a 34 percent load increase from 2mm more bore and OD. The 6202 bearing (15x35x11mm, 7.65 kN) adds another 12 percent with 3mm larger bore. For 12mm shaft applications, the 6201 bearing provides the highest load capacity among standard deep groove bearings at this bore size, exceeding the 6001 bearing (12x28x8mm, 5.10 kN) by 34 percent and the 6301 bearing (12x37x12mm, 9.70 kN) for maximum duty.

Compared to the 6001 bearing (12x28x8mm, 5.10 kN dynamic), the 6201 bearing requires 4mm more housing diameter but delivers 34 percent more capacity. The 2mm width increase from 8mm to 10mm provides a larger ball complement and deeper raceway geometry. In a 0.75 kW power tool motor, upgrading from 6001 bearing to 6201 bearing extends calculated bearing life from approximately 2,000 hours to over 6,000 hours at rated load, a factor of 3 improvement.

 

OEM and Customization

Common OEM customizations include C3 radial internal clearance for electric motor and power tool applications where thermal expansion tightens the running clearance under continuous load, C2 clearance for precision spindles, and high-temperature polyurea or fluorinated grease for duty above 120C. Stainless steel (440C) rings and balls serve food processing, marine, and chemical washdown environments; dynamic load rating reduces to approximately 5.5 kN. Cage options include glass-fiber-reinforced PA66 (standard), machined brass, and pressed steel. Both have a 12mm bore. The 6201 bearing measures 32mm OD x 10mm width while the 6001 bearing measures 28mm OD x 8mm width. The 6201 bearing carries 6.82 kN dynamic load, 34 percent more than the 6001 bearing at 5.10 kN. The tradeoff is 4mm more OD and 2mm more width. Choose the 6201 bearing when load capacity exceeds 6001 bearing limits. Choose the 6001 bearing when housing diameter below 30mm is required.

Only with re-machining of the shaft and housing. The 6200 bearing uses a 10mm bore and 30mm OD, while the 6201 bearing requires 12mm bore and 32mm OD. Q3: What speed can a 6201 bearing handle in a power tool? +
In open configuration with grease lubrication, the 6201 bearing is rated to 20,000 RPM. Most corded power tools operate at 10,000 to 15,000 RPM, well within the bearing speed rating. In 2RS sealed configuration, the rating drops to 16,000 RPM due to seal lip friction.
