Shielding and Lubrication
The 6905 bearing is supplied in three configurations. All share identical ring geometry, GCr15 chrome steel rings and balls, and a stamped steel cage.
Open 6905 bearing carries no shields or seals. Running speed reaches 16,000 RPM with grease lubrication. Use the open configuration when the bearing operates inside a sealed housing, gearbox, or motor end bell where the enclosure blocks contamination and supplies lubrication.
6905 ZZ bearing uses non-contact pressed steel shields (SPCC) on both sides. The shield-to-inner-ring gap adds no measurable friction, retaining the full 16,000 RPM speed rating. Metal shields deflect coarse dust and airborne particles in clean industrial environments. Choose ZZ for fan motors, belt tensioners, and enclosed power tool spindles.
6905 2RS bearing uses nitrile rubber (NBR) contact seals. The seal lip rides against the inner ring shoulder, creating a positive barrier against moisture, fine dust, and washdown spray. Seal friction limits speed to 11,000 RPM. Factory-filled with lithium grease. Choose 2RS for agricultural equipment, outdoor conveyor rollers, and pump shafts exposed to water splash.
Performance
At 25mm bore and 42mm OD, the 6905 bearing occupies the smallest cross-section in the 6900 thin-section series within the 25mm bore class. The 6005 bearing (25x47x12mm) carries higher loads in exchange for 5mm more OD and 3mm more width. The 6205 bearing (25x52x15mm) nearly doubles the dynamic load rating in a substantially larger envelope. The 6905 bearing is specified when the housing bore is locked at 42mm and the design cannot accept a deeper-section bearing.
The 9mm width, combined with a 42mm OD, produces a section height of 8.5mm from bore to OD. This thin section limits the ball size and the number of balls the ring can carry. The 6905 bearing uses a deep groove geometry cut into the relatively thin ring wall. GCr15 chrome steel rings hardened to 60 to 64 HRC. Stamped steel cage. ABEC-1 tolerance as standard; ABEC-3 available for applications requiring tighter runout control.
OEM and Customization
Custom internal clearance (C2, CN, C3, C4) is available for production volumes. At the 25mm bore scale, CN radial clearance ranges from 6 to 20 microns. C3 clearance accommodates press-fit mounting in steel housings and thermal expansion in elevated-temperature service. C2 reduced clearance is specified for precision spindle applications where radial play must be held to low single-digit micron levels.
Material upgrades include 440C stainless steel for food processing and marine environments. The dynamic load rating reduces to approximately 5.6kN with 440C. Cage alternatives: glass-fibre reinforced polyamide (PA66-GF25) for reduced noise in fan applications, or machined brass for high-temperature service above 120℃. Custom grease fills include low-temperature ester for cold-chain equipment, PFPE for vacuum and cleanroom use, and high-temperature polyurea for motor and pump bearings operating in the 120 to 150℃ range.
