Shielding and Lubrication

The 605 ZZ bearing uses non-contact SPCC steel shields pressed into the outer ring. At 14mm OD, the shield diameter is small enough that centrifugal distortion at 43,000 RPM is negligible; the labyrinth gap remains stable across the full speed range. Each bearing ships at 25-35% fill with lithium soap grease. For embedded applications where field relubrication is not practical, the initial grease fill covers the design life under light to moderate loads.

The 605 2RS bearing variant uses nitrile contact seals on the inner ring shoulder. At 5mm bore and 5mm width, the seal contact area is small enough that friction torque increase is approximately 15-20% over the open bearing. The speed penalty is modest compared to larger bearings: 2RS seals limit speed to 34,000 RPM rather than the more severe reductions seen in the 30mm-bore class. This makes the 605 2RS bearing practical for sealed-for-life applications where neither relubrication nor shield gaps are acceptable.


Performance

At 1.33 kN dynamic and 0.51 kN static, the 605 bearing carries the lowest load ratings in the 5mm-bore 6-series. The 625 bearing (5x16x5mm, 1.73 kN Cr) adds 2mm OD for 30% more capacity. The 635 bearing (5x19x6mm, 2.34 kN) adds 5mm OD and 1mm width for 76% more capacity. Select the 605 bearing only when 14mm OD is the hard constraint. If the housing bore can reach 16mm, the 625 bearing provides a meaningful load margin. If 19mm fits, the 635 bearing delivers the maximum capacity for a 5mm shaft.

ABEC-3 tolerance is standard. For optical encoder and micro-spindle applications where radial runout must stay below 2 microns, ABEC-5 and ABEC-7 grades are available. C2 radial clearance eliminates internal play for preloaded miniature assemblies where the housing fit and shaft fit together produce a light interference after mounting. The 605 bearing fits deep groove ball bearing applications where OD space governs the design.
