The 6005 bearing ships in three sealing configurations. Open bearings suit oil-bath gearboxes and pump housings where system lubrication provides continuous oil supply; this configuration reaches the full 15,000 RPM. ZZ metal shields press into the outer ring with a non-contact labyrinth gap, retaining factory grease while adding negligible friction. 2RS nitrile rubber seals contact the inner ring land, forming a positive barrier against moisture and fine particulate below 10 microns. The seal contact adds measurable drag, reducing the speed ceiling to 12,000 RPM. All sealed variants ship pre-greased for life with polyurea-thickened mineral grease; no field relubrication is required under normal operating conditions.

At 12mm width, the 6005 bearing has enough axial space for seal groove geometry that balances lip contact force against drag torque. For applications running above 12,000 RPM in clean environments, the ZZ configuration eliminates seal drag while maintaining grease retention. For outdoor equipment, washdown systems, or high-humidity indoor environments, the 2RS seal with its positive lip contact is the correct choice.

 

Performance

The 6005 bearing carries 10.1 kN dynamic load and 5.85 kN static load at 15,000 RPM in open configuration. Within the 6000-series, the 6005 bearing occupies the mid-range. Stepping up from the 6004 bearing (20x42x12mm, 9.38 kN dynamic), the 5mm larger bore yields a 7.7 percent load increase while the OD grows by only 5mm to 47mm. Moving to the 6006 bearing (30x55x13mm, 13.2 kN dynamic) adds 31 percent more capacity at the cost of 8mm additional OD and the next frame size in motor housings. For 25mm shaft applications in the 1 to 5 kW band, the 6005 bearing sits at the intersection of sufficient load margin and compact envelope.

Compared to the 6205 bearing (25x52x15mm, 14.0 kN dynamic), the 6005 bearing saves 5mm in OD and 3mm in width at 28 percent lower load capacity. When the housing bore is fixed at 47mm by legacy tooling or adjacent clearance, the 6005 bearing is the only standard 25mm-bore deep groove option that fits. The 6005 bearing also runs approximately 10 percent faster due to its smaller ball diameter and lower pitch-circle velocity. In electric motors where bearing OD sets the end-bell casting thickness, specifying the 6005 bearing over the 6205 bearing can reduce housing weight by 150 to 250 grams per unit.
