606 Bearing | Deep Groove Ball Bearing 6x17x6mm
The 606 bearing occupies a rarely specified 17mm OD at a 6mm bore: wider than the ultra-compact 696 bearing (15mm OD) and narrower than the common 626 bearing (19mm OD). It exists for designs where every millimeter of housing diameter is budgeted and a 15mm OD is structurally insufficient.
Key Specifications
- Sealing: Open, ZZ (metal shields), or 2RS (rubber seals); ZZ reaches full speed rating with non-contact protection.
- Speed and Load: 38,000 RPM (open) with 2.19 kN dynamic and 0.86 kN static load; 2RS configuration rated to 30,000 RPM.
- Radial Fit: 6mm bore, 17mm OD, 6mm width; 5.5mm radial cross-section bridging the gap between 696 and 626 envelopes.
- Temperature Range: -20C to 120C with standard polyurea grease; 150C peak available with high-temperature lubricant.
- Precision: Standard ABEC-1. ABEC-3 available for tighter bore and radial runout requirements on request.

Shielding and Lubrication
The 606 bearing ships in three sealing configurations. Open (no suffix) fits oil-mist and grease-packed gear housings where the lubrication circuit provides contamination control. ZZ shields use non-contact pressed-steel covers retained in the outer ring; they trap factory grease while adding zero friction, reaching the full 38,000 RPM rating. 2RS seals use nitrile rubber lips contacting the inner ring groove, blocking moisture and particulates at the cost of a reduced speed ceiling of approximately 30,000 RPM. The 2RS version ships pre-packed with polyurea grease and requires no field relubrication.
At 6mm width, the seal contact zone occupies a proportionally larger share of the cross-section than on wider bearings. Frictional torque from 2RS seals at 30,000 RPM on a 606 bearing can consume 8 to 12 percent of the available drive torque in low-power spindles. ZZ shields avoid this penalty entirely. For intermittent-duty instruments cycling between clean and splash-prone environments, 2RS remains the safer choice.
Performance
The 606 bearing carries 2.19 kN dynamic and 0.86 kN static load at 38,000 RPM in open configuration. Within the 6mm-bore miniature family, this sits squarely between the 696 bearing (6x15x5mm, 1.73 kN dynamic) and the 626 bearing (6x19x6mm, 2.34 kN dynamic). The 606 bearing delivers 27 percent more dynamic capacity than the 696 bearing from 2mm additional OD and 1mm additional width, while weighing only 4.9g per unit.
The step to the 626 bearing gains another 0.15 kN dynamic load but requires 2mm more housing diameter and adds 1.5g of rotating mass. For a 6mm shaft at 38,000 RPM, the 2.19 kN rating of the 606 bearing covers most instrument and lab-automation duty cycles without forcing the housing wall thinner than a 696 bearing would require. When 15mm OD leaves insufficient wall thickness for press-fit retention, the 606 bearing often avoids a custom housing. For OEM deep groove ball bearing orders, deep groove ball bearing selection starts with the envelope constraints.
OEM and Customization
Yuanhe manufactures the 606 bearing to customer specifications beyond catalog dimensions. Common OEM requests for the 6mm-bore series include C2 radial clearance for precision spindle preload in dental and laboratory instruments, low-noise polyurea grease with filtered fill for patient-adjacent medical devices, and 440C stainless steel rings and balls for autoclave-sterilized surgical handpieces. Non-standard bore tolerances and custom cage materials are available against drawing. Standard lead time is 7 to 15 days; sample quantities ship in 5 days.
